1) Keep it civil. Personal attacks or disputes, bickering, flaming, and trolling behavior will not be tolerated. Disagreements are fine, but keep them civil and short.
2) Keep conversations on topic with with the blog theme: weather and climate. Avoid adult-only topic themes. Our site is open to users of all ages, so please respect others. Personal stories and current events may also be up for discussion. Political comments are allowed, as long as they’re in reference to science, science policy, or the blog topic.
3) No hate speech of any kind is allowed.
4) Foul or obscene language or content of any kind is not allowed.
5) Threats and intimidation will not be tolerated, and behavior of this type which extends into the real world will be temporarily or permanently banned.
6) No monomania.
7) Posting comments which contain links to external sites is allowed, but please keep the number of links to a maximum of 10-12. Links should also be relevant to the blog topic and/or discussion topic at hand.
8) No posting external or copyright images without the image owner’s permission.
9) Do not circumvent a ban. Most bans last a few days or less, so please accept the ban. If you create a new username to circumvent a ban, you will be blocked from the site permanently.
10) Opinions and theories are fine but should not be presented as facts.
11) Do not “1st!”, “1st post!”, or any of the numerical/linguistic derivatives. This is a worthless use of blog space.
12) No spamming. No spamming. Really NO SPAMMING. Spamming includes, but is not limited to, trying to sell products, trying to solicit traffic for a blog or chat site, trying to solicit traffic for other commercial entities, etc. Do not post links to your own site unless they are directly relevant and even then, use sparingly.
13) Do not quote content which violates the Rules of the Road.
Tips
– Do not enter games of oneupmanship with trolls or bloggers you find to be annoying. You will be banned along with them, as your verbal jousts consume the space and time everyone else is sharing. If you come across a troll or another blogger whom you find to be irritating, please use the site reporting tools and block them.
– In the comment section, Disqus caches pages so at times an image will appear to be old or out of date. Try clicking on the image to see the one actually posted.
