Photojournalist Gary Braasch’s images from his 2007 book Earth Under Fire (see Forum article) is being featured in six postage stamps as part of the United Nations’ “Year of Planet Earth.”

The six stamps, to be issued October 23 at a postage stamp “mega event” at New York’s Madison Square Garden, “offer a chance to bring information to a great many more people around the world,” the Portland, Oregon, photographer and writer said in a statement.

A press statement on the stamps said it is unusual for the U.N. – the world’s only organization other than a country or territory authorized to issue postage stamps – to rely on a single artist or photographer for all the images for stamps and an accompanying information booklet. In all, the collection includes 30 photos by Braasch. Information is available at the U.N.’s website.
